CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS

TRASH CINEMA ANTHOLOGY

The organizers of Born to Be Bad are seeking manuscripts for an anthology devoted to trash and exploitation cinema.  Much of the energy of Trash Studies has gone into exploring its paradoxical status as the study of material designed to be discarded.  With Trash Studies now gaining a certain critical momentum and even institutional legitimacy, this volume promises to contribute to the field by concentrating upon the material circumstances under which trash artifacts and genres have been produced and consumed. Theoretical and metacritical essays are welcome, but we are particularly interested in work that focuses upon the exhibition, marketing, and reception of trash cinema, and upon the institutional frameworks that helped to produce (and dispose of) trash objects. Contributions might examine individual films, advertising, exhibition sites, the interrelationship of diverse trash media, public discussion of trashy movies, methods of trash production, and so on. If we receive a large number of submissions from both approaches, we may work toward developing two volumes. The volume on production, exhibition, and reception, however, will take precedence.

Confirmed contributors include Eric Schaefer, Joan Hawkins, Amy Ongiri, Kevin Heffernan, and Ernest Mathijs.

Submissions should be no longer than 10,000 words, including notes and references.

The deadline is
February 10, 2003; early submission is encouraged. Inquiries and preliminary abstracts are also welcome. Send manuscripts either by mail or by e-mail as an attached file to the editors:
